Alle Bruhns-Orgelwerke ediert nach den Quellen Das Orgelschaffen von Nicolaus Bruhns wirft auch heute noch viele Fragen auf. Die praktische Quellenedition Harald Vogels versucht, den Informationsgehalt der Quellen weitgehend auszuschöpfen und sich so eng wie möglich an die ursprüngliche Notation anzulehnen. Vogel verzichtet dabei auf editorische Ergänzungen durch Analogiebildungen, um den Benutzer dicht an das Original heranzuführen. In dieser Hinsicht folgt Vogel der Praxis seiner Ausgaben von Scheidts 'Tabulatura nova' (EB 8565 - 67) und der Werke Sweelincks (EB 8741 - 44). Die ausführliche Kommentierung enthält im Vorwort eine Diskussion der Autorschaft der beiden zweifelhaften Werke, die in den Anhang aufgenommen worden sind, sowie zwei umfangreiche Essays, die auf die wichtigsten Aspekte zu Notation, Interpretation und den Originalinstrumenten eingehen.
