Rautavaara reworked his touching song from the opera Aleksis Kivi for cello and piano in 2000, to commemorate his late composer colleague Lepo Sumera. The melody is calm, in the style of chanson sans paroles - fit for many occasions. Song of My heart for cello and piano has been recorded (Ondine, 2018) by Tanja Tetzlaff and Gunilla Süssmann.
