Before he adapted the tune into a popular choral work, Latvian composer Eriks Ešenvalds conceived of this expansive original version of Spring Rain as a "Concerto Grosso for mezzo-soprano and wind orchestra," setting not only the titular Sara Teasdale verse but also that poet's "Wild Asters" as well as the "The Soldier's Wife" by Barbara Baker.
