Description:
Joaquin Turina (1882-1949) along with Granados, Albeniz and Manuel de Falla, was a defining voice in Spanish music. His music is typically very lyrical and deeply inspired by the rich musical heritage of his native Seville. The Sinfonia Sevillana was composed in 1920 and appeared almost simultaneously with another orchestral masterpiece, the Danzas fantasticas. Both pieces are dedicated to the Spanish poet Jose Mas. The Sinfonia Sevillana, is a masterful portrait of Turina's home city. Its three movements beautifully evoke the Sevillan countryside, displaying the city in a wide range of moods and vibrant colors.
