Description:
Svendsen wrote his three Norwegian rhapsodies between 1876 and 1877. All of them are largely based on themes from a collection og songs Ældre og nyere norske Fjeldmelodier' by L.M. Lundeman.
Norwegian Rhapsody no. 3 begin with two dances which eventually merge into a slower part based on a Norwegian folk tune named 'Aasmund Fregdegjævar'. The rhapsody ends with to merry folk songs. The rhapsody is dedicated another great Norwegian composer; Edvard Grieg.
Johan Svendsen was a master of orchestration and this transcriptions tries, as far as possible, to take care of his rich orchestral palette.
