This character piece was composed for a competition held in 1962 by the Norwegian Band Federation. Three prices were awarded and Geirr Tveitt won all of them.
The Old Mill on the Brook is the most performed of all pieces Tveitt wrote for band. It has a special fullness, portraying nature in rich colours, with grass, water, stone, forest and the darkness of traditional Norwegian timber.
This new editon for modern instrumentation is written by Stig Nordhagen.
