Literally translated, the title 'The Salute' was commissioned and dedicated to a band director of the same name. This original work opens with an expressive regal musical statement and develops into a driving, energetic frenzy initiated by the percussion section and followed by the entire ensemble. Utilizing subtle multi-meter and shifting pulse to enhance the excitement throughout, the work finishes with a suitably dramatic conclusion. It is a welcomed addition to the serious concert band literature. (5:30)
