Description:
Although Arturo Marquez was already an accomplished composer in Mexico, his music started to reach the international stage with the introduction of his series of Danzones in the early 1990s. This venerable dance form especially attracted Marquez's interest. This dance retains a stately, formal character reflecting the early origins of the dance: European colonists brought to the Caribbean the contra-dances that were a main feature of social dances among the ruling class in the French and Spanish colonies. Especially Only a few of the Danzones are composed for orchestra. Among them are the very popular 'Danzon No.2' and this 'Danzon No. 4'.
