This arrangement of Gustav Mahler's 'Rückert-Lieder' was made in 2020 to a commission from the Amaryllis Quartet, and is dedicated to the soprano Juliane Banse and the Amaryllis Quartet. As a work complementary to the present arrangement, David Philip Hefti wrote his sixth string quartet entitled 'Five scenes for Gustav'. These five movements may be played as preludes to the five Rückert-Lieder.
