Description:
When Berwald worked on the piano quartet in 1819, chamber music was blossoming in Stockholm. Among other repertoire, the Septet by Beethoven was performed regularly and has probably inspired Berwald to write his Septet. The quartet was premiered on March 3rd, 1921 in Stockholm with Ewa Lithander (piano) and the outstanding and famous wind players Bernhard Henrik Crusell (1775-1838, clarinet), Johann Michael Hirschfeld (1776-1841, horn) and Frans Carl Preumayr (1782-1853, bassoon). An attractive, distinctive chamber music in an unusual scoring.
