My Dancing Day, On Christmas Night

Commissioned in 2000 as a first-half closer by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Chorus, this is one of the most popular arrangements in the Gary Fry catalogue. Beautiful, graceful opening on 'Tomorrow Shall Be My Dancing Day' gives way to 'On Christmas Night' in full-bore contemporary Celtic rhythm treatment. Intricate choral writing intersperses fragments of other English and Welsh carol tunes, and the orchestra quotes from 'Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring' as the piece drives forward to a high-energy conclusion sure to bring the house down. Duration: 6:00. For SATB, optional children's choir, and orchestra. Orchestra parts for rent.
