Description:
A lovely alto ballad feature (with a flugelhorn leading the sax section plus 4 trumpets), this chart was premeired by Dave Pietro at the Mile High Jazz Camp a few years back. Predominately in a serious Billy Strayhorn ballad style, there are contemporary dense harmonies with two brief rubato ensemble passages used as bookends to frame the melodic material and the solo section. Demanding piece for the alto soloist and the rhythm section. Doubles: Alto 1 & 2 on flute; Tenor 1 & 2 on clarinet; Bari on Bs. Clar. (Opt. flugelhorn substitute lead part).
