Commissioned by the Pella (IA) High School Jazz Band. 'Elegy for Holly' is a poignant vehicle for solo soprano saxophone. Reminiscent of Oliver Nelson's 'I Hope in Time a Change Will Come', this chart has a slow 12/8, minor bluesy 'vibe' that alternates with sections in a brighter major tonality.Instrumentation: 6 saxes, 4 trumpets, 4 trombones, and 4 rhythm (p-g-b-d); no woodwind doubles. Lead trumpet extends only to a written Bb above the staff. Medium difficult.
