Kraft's series of Encounters; featuring percussion paired with another instrument; is completed with the release of this duo with amplified guitar. Commissioned by the Fromm Foundation for Southwest Chamber Music; Encounters XV uses the amplification of the guitar to allow a more equal footing with the percussion; which uses marimba and vibraphone; along with Asian gongs; temple bowls; graduated drums; and tam tams. As can be expected from an accomplished orchestral timpanist; Kraft uses a variety of techniques to achieve his specific sonoric goals. Both percussion and guitar parts include the other's part in cue size; so all page turns are anticipated and both players see each other's part. For advanced performers.
