When I am Laid in Earth, Dido's Lament from 'Dido and Aeneas' by Henry Purcell, arranged for Low Flute Choir by Cathi Marro. The work is built on a ‘ground' (or ‘ground bass'), which is phrase in the bass part that is repeated throughout the work. Familiar to most music school students, it is included in many classical music textbooks as a superior example of this compositional technique.
