La 'Fantasia sull'opera Carmen op. 25' per violino e orchestra fu composta nel 1881 e dedicata 'A Monsieur Hellmesberger', direttore del Conservatorio di Vienna. Sarasate fece la prima esecuzione a Madrid il 17 aprile 1881 e l'anno seguente il brano venne pubblicato dall'editore parigino Choudens nella riduzione per violino e pianoforte che ebbe un successo enorme.
The 'Fantasy on the opera Carmen op. 25' for violin and orchestra was composed in 1881 and dedicated 'To Monsieur Hellmesberger', director of the Vienna Conservatory. Sarasate premiered the piece in Madrid on April 17, 1881 and the following year it was published by the Parisian publisher Choudens in the reduction for violin and piano which was a huge success.
