Description:
This lullaby is a beautiful example of Welsh folk music. Lullabies such as this were sung as assurance that all would be well until morning, conjuring images of watchful angels and peaceful slumber. The low register of the flutes is exploited, especially in the opening, to establish the mood of calm and serenity. Flute choirs which do not have access to alto or bass flutes will find this arrangement by Fred Allen to be a welcome addition to their repertoire, although at least two of the C flutes need to be equipped with a B foot joint. The arrangement can be performed effectively as part of a sextet by six solo players, or as a flute choir with multiple players on each part.
