Description:
Jambo (pronounced jahm-boh) is Swahili and translates as “Hello.” The composition was created from extended sketches Basler wrote while living in Nairobi, Kenya in 1993-94 as the Senior Fulbright Lecturer in Music at Kenyatta University. Stylistic influences in the work come from his experiences with Kenyan choral traditions (call and response) and the joyful, optimistic and celebratory nature of Kenyans. Instrumentation: E-Flat Clarinet, 3 B-Flat Clarinets, Alto Clarinet/Basset Horn, Bass Clarinet, Contrabass/Contralto/String Bass
