Siegmeister was captured by the Heinrich von Kleist story, and, with librettist Norman Rosten, transposed the setting from Northern Italy and the Napoleonic Wars to the U.S.-Mexican war. To me, it's a real blockbuster. It s got a combination of whodunnit and a sexy story and war and peace and battles. I really think it s a humdinger, he tells Bruce Duffie.
