Chen Yi

Northern Scenes

Chen Yi's 8-minute musical poem is imaginative and expressive; with layers of passion and lyricism; and a misty sense of suspended time. The composer was inspired by nature; creating the lines: In the north; the vast and magnificent blue mountains; boundless; desolate; and indistinct...Northern Scenes was premiered in 2013 by pianist and dedicatee Susan Chan (Assoc. Prof. of Music; Portland State University); an advocate for Asian music and music by women composers. For advanced pianists.
