Night on a BareMountain or, to give its proper title, Saint John's Night on the Bare Mountain, was written in 1867 and was inspired by a scene of a witches' sabbath in Gogol's story of St. John's Eve, and depicts ghosts, ghouls and demons. This arrangement has bee n simplified to a certain degree to make what is otherwise a difficult piece, more accessible.
