Strings (Violin 1, Violin 2, Viola, Cello, Bass)
Elgar's incidental music for Bertram P. Matthews' play 'Beau Brummel' was written in 1928. By all accounts the music was very extensive: however, it has entirely disappeared, with the exception of this Minuet, which survives both in its original version for theatre orchestra and in the slightly shorter 'concert' version. This performing score contains both versions, which are musically identical apart from the last few bars.
The orchestral parts also show both versions with the 'Stage version' on one side and the 'Concert version' on the other. Cautious conductors may wish to draw the attention of the players to this fact to ensure that all are playing the same version!
The computer-generated performance available below is the Concert version.
A PACK comprises one full score, all wind brass and percussion parts and string parts 4/4/3/4/2.
Duration about 4 minutes
