The AIR FOR STRINGS was composed in Mallorca in October 2006. It is a heartfelt love song in the form of a long arching lament built around a simple and passionate theme woven through the strings. First stated on violas and interspersed with bridge passages, the theme passes through to violins and a solo cello before finally arriving at a climactic statement about half way through. The music then subsides leaving the theme exposed in a more relaxed setting before arriving at its conclusion in quiet, calm suspension. It is dedicated in love to my partner Cy. (Paul Carr)
