American cellist Paul Tobias is a strong proponent of Ranjbaran's Cello Concerto; having performed the work multiple times; including performances of the second movement; Elegy; alone. Tobias has also recorded it on Albany Records with the Virginia Symphony; JoAnn Falletta conducting. Cello Concerto began as a commission from New Heritage Music; to be the composer's creative responses to the life and thought of Thomas Jefferson; but is destined to become a core component of the repertoire.
