Tigran Mansurian attempts to fathom these mysteries - the magical plant with its unique qualities, and the magnificence of 'material folds' in Armenian music - in his Ode to the Lotus. The mystic sound of the viola seemed to him the most appropriate tonal medium for this purpose.
