Whew ... that was close! Watch Out! by composer Brian Beck is a musical obstacle course for the entire band. This gauntlet challenges every player in the ensemble to a battle of 'who performed it best?' by allowing every instrument an opportunity to play both the melody as well as the accompaniment throughout the piece. What was in the lower voice is now in the upper sections and vice versa. There is no better way to teach and assess style, dynamics, phrasing, articulation, and accidentals than having everyone play identical phrases but in difference places. (2:10)
