Description:
Tierra, Tierra for concert band, score 22 p. and parts.
This work has a swinging tempo (180) and an upbeat motif. You could easily sing along or dance to it.
The intro and theme are followed by two choruses with solos for trombone, trumpet, alto saxophone and tenor saxophone. In the last chorus, the theme is repeated and there is a flute solo. The solo passages contain chord symbols on which the soloists can improvise. For the benefit of those who do not improvise, there are written-out solos.
Thanks to the audio sample, you get a good idea of how this work sounds.
The title "Tierra, Tierra" refers to the exclamation on Columbus' ship at the discovery of America.
It is also a nod to the song "Christopher Colombus" played by Fletcher Henderson's Big Band in the 1930s.
