Serengeti Sunrise' wurde als musikalisches Porträt einer morgendlichen Safari durch die Wüste Serengeti in Afrika konzipiert. Das Stück beginnt mit einer schwungvollen Fanfare. Ein tiefes, ahnungsvolles Ostinato unterstützt eine anmutige Melodie, die ein Wohnmobil symbolisiert. In der Mitte des Werks erscheint ein kleines Zwischenspiel, das verschiedene Schlagwerkklänge mit den Holzbläsern kombiniert, die musikalisch einen dahinfliessenden Strom darstellen. Eine kurze Wiederholung eines früheren Abschnitts führt das Werk mit großem Ensembleklang zum Schluss.
Serengeti Sunrise' was conceived as a musical portrait of an early morning safari across the Serengeti in Africa. Beginning with a bold fanfare, a low ominous ostinato pattern supports a graceful melody, signifying a traveling caravan. In the middle of the work a brief interlude appears which combines various percussion sounds with the woodwinds playing a musical effect of a flowing stream. A recap of the earlier section ends the work with a large ensemble sound.
