Description:
The Piano Concerto No. 23, KV 488 was finished, according to Mozart's own catalogue, on March 2, 1786. The slow second movement, in ternary form, is somewhat operatic in tone. The piano begins alone with a theme in 'Siciliano' rhythm characterized by unusually wide leaps. The dynamics are soft throughout most of the piece. The middle of the movement contains a brighter section in A major announced by flute and clarinet that Mozart would later use to introduce the trio 'Ah! taci ingiusto core!' in his 1787 opera 'Don Giovanni'.
French arranger Bruno Peterschmitt transcribed this second movement ('Adagio') for Piano with accompaniment of a Wind Ensemble.
