Description:
Wallingford Riegger's New Dance, composed 1935, was originally the third section of Trilogy, a large dance piece commissioned by Doris Humphrey for the renowned Humphrey-Weidman Dance Company. Parts Iand II were entitled 'Theatre Piece' (later designated Op. 19) and 'With My Red Fires' (Op. 20).
First scored for Piano and instruments, New Dance, Op. 18, was later rescored by the composer in four knownversions, all now published: for Piano solo, two Pianos, Orchestra (Op. 18b) and Concert Band (Op. 18c).
