Description:
The winds referred to in the title of this march have nothing to do with the weather of course. They are the wind instruments of the band, although this is not entirely true because there is also an important part for the percussion instruments. The march is written in the traditional three parts and the first two of these are in 6/8 but for the trio the music changes to 4/4. The first part has a swinging, 'foot tapping', character and the second section features echoing pyramid chord build-ups. A short fanfare leads to the lyrical trio theme in broad 4/4 style played by the lower winds. This is connected by a bridge passage to a tutti repetition in which there is much woodwind decoration in running sixteenth notes. March of the winds is a concert march and therefore unsuitable for marching to.
