Description:
This piece was specially composed at the request of the then chief of the Belgian Air Force, Air Lieutenant-General G. Van Hecke, for the inauguration of the new monument to the Belgian Air Force. It is a musical homage to all the war victims of Belgian military aviation. The composition will be performed each year on this occasion. For this reason, the composer avoided a funeral style for this work. There are two very different parts: the first section is written as an overture featuring a majestic brass fanfare, (with some allusions to the March of the Belgian Air Force) but the second section is more quiet and serene with the bugle call 'aux champs' in counterpoint at the conclusion. Through this composition, Alain Crepin has attempted to illustrate, with music, the past, present and future spirit of the Belgian Air Force.
