Description:
Originally, written for orchestra by Chabrier using actual melodies that the composer collected in Spain, a malaguena and ajota aragonesa, this brilliant piece was first arranged for band by Lucien Cailliet in 1964. Cailliet's transcription reflects the trends towards very large band instrumentation that were in vogue at the time, though only originally with a condensed score. In a project to offer a full score, a substantial number of errors and misprints in the instrumental parts were discovered that had never been corrected. This revised transcription allows the substantial number of errors to be corrected while rescoring the transcription to make it more compatible with the practice of contemporary wind bands.
