Description:
The work describes a short dance by a one-legged sailor. In the 6/8 beat the sailor always makes the wrong steps and gets furious about it. So he stamps his wooden leg (sounded by beats on two large woodblocks) in anger on the floor. Yet he tries again and each time the theme changes a little bit. The two passages when the musicians blow air through their instruments (measures 44 - 45 and 63-64) represent the sailor's sighing. The 'Dance of the one-legged sailor' also offers several possibilities to bring this sailor on the stage during the performance of the composition.
