Editions Orphée has published this lively composition for classical guitar by Carlos Barrientos; based on Honduran folk dance the Xique (or Sique). The name of the dance itself is onomatopoeic; and the music imitates the scraping sound of the sandals dancers wear. The title refers to a cry that abruptly interrupts the dance and inspires a dance-off between different coplas (couples) on the dance floor. Barrientos named this piece as his 'response to the Xique music that [he] first delighted in as a boy.' For the advanced player.
