Mal d'archive entstand im Experimentalstudio der Heinrich-Strobel-Stiftung des Südwestrundfunks (Joachim Haas, Klangingenieur) und wurde am 24. Oktober 2003 in Frankfurt am Main uraufgeführt. Das Werk verwendet, im Sinne einer musique concrète, Klänge, die im Holocaust-Turm des Jüdischen Museums in Berlin, erbaut von Daniel Libeskind, aufgenommen wurden, sowie solche, die sich beim Begehen der Installation 'Fallen Leaves' von Menashe Kadishman ebendort ergeben haben. Der Titel besteht aus zwei Komponenten. 'Void' heißt 'Leere' und ist der Name für jene Leerräume, die dieses Museum durchziehen (der Holocaust-Turm ist einer dieser 'voids'); 'mal d'archive' ist der Titel eines Buches von Jacques Derrida und bedeutet in diesem Zusammenhang, dass in eine Leerstelle der Erinnerung etwas eingeschrieben wird. --------------------------------------------------------- void - mal d'archive was produced at the Experimental Studio of the Heinrich Strobel Foundation of South-West German Radio (SWR) (Joachim Haas, sound engineer) and premiered in Frankfurt am Main on 24 October 2003. The work uses, in the manner of musique concrète, sounds recorded in the Holocaust Tower of the Jewish Museum in Berlin, built by Daniel Libeskind, as well as sounds produced while visiting the installation 'Fallen Leaves' by Menashe Kadishman in the same building. The title consists of two components: 'Void' refers to the empty spaces that run through the museum (the Holocaust Tower is one of these); 'mal d'archive' is the title of a book by Jacques Derrida, and in this context it means that something is inscribed into an empty space in the memory.
