Description:
Sally Beamish's Cello Concerto No.1 'River' is a 22-minute work inspired by the constantly changing form of rivers. Its four movements are titled March Watercolour, The Kingfisher, Low Water and All Night a Music Like a Needle Sewing. It was commissioned and first performed on 14 October 1997 in London by Robert Cohen and the Academy of St Martin in the Fields, conducted by Sir Neville Marriner. The score (EP 72816) is available for sale as part of the Peters Contemporary Library. The performance material can be hired.
