Description:
AZ by Mark Andre is an 18-minute work for ensemble with the following instrumentation: 1(BFl).1.1.1(Cbsn) - 1.1.1.0 - 2Perc - Pf - Hp - Str(1.0.1.1.1). Initially, it was conceived as a number of interludes between various songs of Schubert's Winterreise, but it can be performed as a standalone piece, too. AZ explores the process of disappearance and correlates - without quoting directly - with the material of the Winterreise. Commissioned by the Ensemble intercontemporain and first performed by them on 7 February 2014 at Cité de la musique, Paris, conducted by Matthias Pintscher.
