Composed employing the harmonic vocabulary of Herbert Howells, this setting of the Te Deum was commissioned for the inauguration of the new organ at Ladue Chapel Presbyterian Church in St. Louis, Missouri (David Erwin, organist and director). The traditional solemn Gregorian tone of the canticle is invoked to provide the basic thematic material throughout.
