Let us break bread together is the fifth movement of the work Millennial Suite: Hymns through the Ages. The work's six movements make imaginative use of popular hymns that are presented in chronological order.With regard to this movement, the first verse of the spiritual is sung in a slightly ornamented fashion by a solo soprano voice. After a brief modulation in the organ, the choir sings the second verse without accompaniment. All forces combine in the third and final verse with the solo soprano singing the melody in a slightly varied fashion an octave higher than the choir.
