Description:
Experience a masterful landmark of early Baroque vocal polyphony: Heinrich Schütz's "St. John Passion" SWV 481 captivates listeners with its meditative simplicity and deeply moving musical expressiveness. Deliberately dispensing with instrumental accompaniment, this evocative work draws its dramatic intensity entirely from the human voice. Alongside the central solo roles of the Evangelist (tenor) and Jesus (bass), individual soloists from the ensemble portray smaller roles, while the four-part mixed choir (SATB) delivers powerful turba choruses.
This full score from Bärenreiter is based on the authoritative Urtext of the New Schütz Edition. It provides conductors, choirs, and soloists with the ideal, reliable foundation for an authentic and inspiring performance of this timeless sacred masterpiece.
