At First Light explores the theme of hope through a rich homophonic texture, contrasted with a brief solo section in which individual voices punctuate a dissonant background swirling with brief melodies. Rising and falling dynamic levels express how hope can seem to come and go, but ultimately springs forth. Choirs will appreciate the expressive challenges in this score and will be richly rewarded as they navigate its beautiful phrases and thick harmonic palette.
