Description:
This is a Brazilian choro for big band. Choro (sho-ro) is a traditional Brazilian music style from the 20's and 30's. It is similar to rag time and Dixieland in its form treatment and counterpoint character, as well as small ensemble tradition. This is a modern version of a choro and many modern choros were written for big band. It features the tenor and alto saxophones, trumpet and trombone as soloists. It can be expanded to have piano, bass and guitar solos. Arranged for the standard big band, optional parts for vibraphone and flute are also available but not necessary. Instrumentation: 2 altos, 2 tenors, baritone sax, 4 trumpets, 4 trombones, guitar, piano, bass, drums. The highest note on the trumpet is a concert Db above the staff. Difficult.
