Description:
Up-tempo swing. Feature for trumpet/tenor duo in front of band. An examination of the vertical and horizontal aspects and powers of the three basic blues chords: 17, IV7 and V7. An open form contrapuntal ensemble section follows the presentation of the fragmented theme by the duo. Solos are open each of the above mentioned chords giving the soloist a chance to explore the meaning of the blues. After a piano solo, the band states the theme (for the first time as a 12-bar blues) in unison and then in constant structure to bring the blues to a boil.
