Description:
This is a solo vehicle for an alto saxophonist that is not part of the sax section in somewhat of a concerto format. This was inspired by the fast Latin music of Metheny and Mayse with the shifting meters, but it's not as hard as it sounds! There is plenty of improvisation space for the alto soloist and the pianist can be included. The top note for the lead trumpet is a concert Eb with an optional G at the end. This is a very complete piece of music on its own, going through many changes of texture, density, color and volume, with a very exciting ending. This has been recorded on a soon to be released Hawk-Richard Jazz Orchestra CD.
