Lengthy (9+ minutes). Ballad/waltz written in honor of my cat's favorite toy, Sid the Squid - a weathered, well-loved six-legged sea creature made of foam, fur, leather, and dirt that gets 'hunted' around house in the wee hours of the morning. This piece sounds kind of like that. After a slow introduction alternating 7/4 and 6/4, the chart moves into a free-form waltz based on a repeating three-bar progression derived from an Eb augmented triad, followed by open-ended solos for any combination of bari/alto, Trombone, guitar, trumpet, and drums. The 'big tune' from the introduction finally returns superimposed over the changes at the end of the solo section to round out the piece. Alto 1 and II double flute, tenor 1 doubles clarinet, bari doubles bass clarinet.
