Description:
This is a Brazilian jazz piece for big band that combines jazz with a simple folk-like motive developed through many rhythmic and harmonic settings. The groove frame is inspired by two Brazilian Northeastern rhythms: baiao and maracatú. It features the tenor and alto saxophones, trumpet and trombone as soloists. It can be expanded to have piano, bass and guitar solos. Arranged for the standard big band, optional parts for vibraphone and flute are also available but not necessary. Instrumentation: 2 altos, 2 tenors, baritone sax, 4 trumpets, 4 trombones, guitar, piano, bass, drums. The highest note on the trumpet is a concert B above the staff. Difficult.
