Description:
The title and tempo marking 'apocalyptic rhumba' (medium) are reverence to Cuban music--though it is composed more in the spirit of John Coltrane and Elvin Jones rather than traditional guaguanco. The chord changes are fairly straight forward even though they require the soloist to adapt form and tempo--a layering modal pyramid for the tenor and drums to drive the soloists to the fine. The ranges are moderate-to-difficult with some ossia for trumpet 1. Medium difficult.
