Penned shortly after he visited the Rio de Janiero Jazz Festival in Brazil in 1961, this classic by bop trumpeter Kenny Dorham has been recorded countless times by a long list of prestigious jazz artists ever since. In this big band setting, the blend of blues and bossa elements keeps everyone busy. A piano solo and trumpet/trombone duet appear early on, followed by two expandable solo sections featuring trombone, trumpet, tenor, and anyone else you want to showcase. In the closing bars solo piano brings everything to a quiet finish. Optional Latin percussion can be added, and rhythm section parts are partially notated with chords cued.
