The Barber of Seville, by Gioacchino Rossini (1792-1868), was first performed in 1816. In the duet 'Dunque io son', Figaro tells Rosina that she is loved and admired by Lindoro and asks her to give some indication that she returns his love. Rosina promptly produces an already-written letter which causes Figaro to muse on the fact that women are smarter than men suspect! This arrangement has been adapted for brass quintet from a manuscript collection of 19th century brass sextet music now in the care of the University of New Hampshire Music Department.
